Learn about 'Apple of His Eye' missions;
Enjoy Peter Klemp Family Singers,
Christian Drama, Inspiring Bible Study
Featured speaker at the Fall LWML Retreat will be Missionary Alan Butterworth of Apple of His Eye Mission Society in St. Louis, MO. As he grew up in a New Age family in the Bronx, Butterworth never heard the Gospel. All his friends were Jewish.
When he finally was told that Jesus died for his sins, he ran for 15 years--until he had endured so much hardship that he fell on his knees one day and asked Jesus to help him! He was baptized the next year.
The retreat will be held Friday evening and Saturday, Oct. 21-22, at the newly-renovated Abbey Resort on Lake Geneva at Fontana.
Over six million Jewish people in North America do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Butterworth will share how Apple of His Eye coordinates Jewish Missions in partnership with the LCMS Board for Missions Services. It conducts short-term mission training events, develops culturally-sensitive materials, establishes mission training centers, and has begun a global prayer initiative.
Theme of the retreat is "Opening the Scriptures." Bible studies on that emphasis will be led by Junior Counselor Robert Busse of Calvary Church, Princeton. Acacia Theatre will also present a Christian drama.
A special "Mites in Action" presentation on the South Wisconsin District's mission to the deaf in Ghana, West Africa, will be given by Pastors John Reinke and William Palmer. Deaf Leader Training in Ghana, West Africa, is a recipient of one of our 2004-2006 mission grants.
Ingathering
The retreat ingathering will benefit the International Lutheran Deaf Mission Society. They need: Children's Jesus picture books, such as the Arch books and Christian bible story books; Christian coloring books and crayons. Also needed are children's Tylenol, Band Aids, antibiotic and first aid creams, and waterless soap.
Offering
Our offering will help Apple of His Eye bring the love of Jesus to the Jewish people. Apple of His Eye is a faith mission in which each missionary trusts God to provide for his/her support through caring Christian friends. As is customary, one-quarter of the retreat offerings will go to our district LWML Female Church Workers Scholarship Fund.
