It has recently dawned on me that there is a huge difference between happiness and joy.  Happiness is based on externals.  You can only be happy if you are in good health, if your family is doing well.  You can only be happy if you are satisfied with your job situation.  Happiness is something you can buy.  It is what Madison Avenue offers us.  It is what Satan tells you that you deserve.  He tells us that God just wants us to be happy, but that is a lie.  Because happiness is fleeting, it doesn't last.  Joy on the other hand is something totally different.  Joy comes from outside of us.  It comes from having a relationship with God.  It comes from the relationship that Christ won for us with his death and resurrection.  The Apostle Paul talks about rejoicing in all circumstances.  And what so many ask is how can I rejoice when my life is falling apart? We can do that when we realize that God is in control of my life and everything is this life is nothing compared to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.  Christ gives our life meaning.  I can rejoice when I realize that My Savior has his mind on me all the time.  He never leaves me alone but is with me always, even in my difficult times.
